I think guinea pigs are wonderful, I used to rescue and care for a bunch of them when I was younger and still miss hearing the little sounds they made whenever I walked in the room.
Portrait of pets great and small
I am happy to paint any pet, as long as their photo is of a high enough quality for me to work from. No matter how small (or big) your furry/scaley/feathered family member is, I can create a portrait that captures their unique personality. These handsome lads were a pleasure to draw and I enjoyed the extra challenge of getting those cool sunglasses just right too.
Memorial portraits of pets who have passed
I had worked with their mum before on a group piggy picture, so she reached out when these boys sadly crossed the rainbow bridge, and I was honoured to be asked to draw their memorial portrait.
Whilst I still offer digital portraits like this one on request, I am finding myself being drawn to traditional art recently, especially with the rise in AI slop that is plaguing our world. For my digital work I draw everything by hand, using a stylus, and nothing is magically ‘generated’. However, there’s just something special about having a desk covered in paintbrushes and pencils, jam jars full of paint water and watercolour pallets that serves as a tangible representation of the work I’ve put in as an artist over the last few decades.
Don’t get me wrong, working digitally has a tonne of benefits, such as being a lot less messy and the ability to ‘zoom in’ and ‘undo’, so I won’t be throwing out my stylus any time soon. I’ve just grown to love the marks and textures that appear naturally when working on paper as opposed to a screen.
